CURRICULUM

APS does not require a particular curriculum for all students. Instead, we encourage
parent/teachers to match the child's abilities, academic level, learning styles, etc. with
professionally published curriculum.

We encourage parent/teachers to customize their curriculum and activities so that their
children may proceed at the rate best suited to their needs and abilities. Professional
educational readiness testing is often very helpful in determining what is best for a child.

APS will be happy to recommend the names of individuals who are licensed by the
State of California to performed such educational testing.

Curriculum choices are often made with long term goals in mind, including requirements for high school graduation and requirements for college admission.

In 2007 the California Regents changed the requirements for admission to UC universities. In addition to traditional admission requirements like Foreign language - 2 years, English - 4 years; Mathematics - 3 years; Laboratory Science - 2 years; History - 2 years, etc. it is now required that High School students have earned 10 units in the same Fine Arts discipline (Visual and Performing Art), in the same year. Example: Earning 5 units in oil painting and 5 units in watercolor painting in one year would fulfill this requirement. Earning 5 units in voice and 5 units in ceramics in one year would not fulfill this requirements.

SUMMER SCHOOL:

EDUCATIONAL EXPECTATIONS:
for all SUMMER SCHOOL courses must be received by the APS office no later than June 30.
Courses taken in summer are not listed on CUMS as part of the Fall course work. They are listed as being taken in the summer.

GRADE SHEETS
for all SUMMER SCHOOL courses should be received by the APS office by August 28.
Students whose grade sheets are turned in after Aug. 28 will not have summer school grades reflected in their CUMS printed for Orientation. Grade sheets still not turned in by Orientation will be charged the standard $10 per week late fee.

SUMMER SCHOOL OUTSIDE OF THE HOME
If a summer school course is taken outside the home (e.g. a community college), make sure you make arrangements to get the grade (instructor verification) from the instructor by the APS deadline. (Arrange for grades to come by post card or letter - do NOT wait for college CUMS to be posted. It will cost you.) Getting the grades in on time is your responsibility, regardless of any circumstances, and cost you $10 per form per week if late.

Instuctor verification needs to be attached to the APS grade sheet which is due by the last week in AUG (see above). Standard late fees appy to grade sheets turned in without instructor verification.
